The Pit

Location: in the system of Dos Ojos off the main highway

Description: Advanced dive for cenote enthusiasts. Check dive required prior to entering this system. This cenote goes to 119 meters but recreational divers can only dive to 30 meters.  As named, the Pit is a straight tube cenote where divers descend and check the formations and come back to the surface.  there is not overhead environment on this dive but interesting surroundings with fossils and great formations.

Facilities: None

Swimming: Not recommended.  This cenote is for diving only.

ANGELITA (The Angel)

Location: 4 km south of Tulum off the main highway
 

Description: Advanced dive for cenote enthusiasts. Check dive required prior to entering this system. Contains a natural sulpher layer that resembles a cloud.

Facilities: None

Swimming: Not recommended.  This cenote is for diving only

DOS OJOS (The Two Eyes)

Location: 48 km south of Playa Del Carmen/3 km south of Xel-Ha/On right 4 km down dirt road.
 

Description: Part of Nohoch Nah Chich cave system. Fresh water system only. Includes tours in on the barbie line and in the bat cave.  Great formations and lots of natural light.

Facilities: Lots.  Bathrooms, little stores, people to help with questions and lots of activity

Swimming:  Good swimming and a nice place to hang out for non divers.

CAR WASH (Aktun Ha/Water Cave)

Location: 8 km from Tulum on the road to Coba

Description: Can drive right up to the cenote approximately 30 m (100 ft).  Local stories say that people used to wash their vehicles here. Fresh water only with a top algae layer and lots of cenote Molly fish.

Facilities: Rustic and few

Swimming: Good to swim in but when the algae blooms could be a tough area for people to get used to on the surface.

GRAN (Sac Aktun/White Water)
Location: 5 km from Tulum on the road to Coba on the right.

Description: Ladder steps lead to half moon shaped cenote decorated with small passages & openings. Famous for brilliant speleothem decorations & crystal clear water. Fresh water only.

Facilities: Washrooms, parking, public spaces and lots of platforms for entry and exit.

Swimming: Super for swimming and non divers will be happy they went.

TEMPLE OF DOOM (Calavera/Skull)

Location: 2 km from Tulum on road to Coba on right

Description: 3 holes in ground (one 30 ft & two 4 ft in diameter) create a skull shape, hence the name. Has the infamous halocline, which is a mix of fresh and salt water.

Facilities: None

Swimming: Great. 10 ft drop down into cenote. Rope swing & ladder
